Past Indefinite Tense

Past Indefinite Tense

The past indefinite tense, also known as the simple past tense, is used to describe actions, events, or states that occurred and were completed at a specific point in the past. In this tense, regular verbs are typically formed by adding "-ed" to the base form of the verb (e.g., "walked," "talked"), while irregular verbs have unique past tense forms (e.g., "went," "ate").

Affirmative Sentence:-

Formula: Subject + Verb 2nd form + Object + Rest of the sentence.

Examples:

उसने कल अपनी परीक्षा के लिए अध्ययन किया।

She studied for her exams yesterday.

उन्होंने पिछले सप्ताह संग्रहालय का दौरा किया।

They visited the museum last week.

शनिवार को उसने स्वादिष्ट भोजन बनाया।

He cooked a delicious meal on Saturday.

It's important to note that the past indefinite tense doesn't specify the duration of the action or whether it has any relevance to the present. It simply indicates that the action or event took place in the past.

Negative Sentences:

Formula: Subject + Helping Verb (Did) + Not + Verb 1st form + Object + Rest of the sentence.

Examples:

मैंने कल रात खाना नहीं खाया.

I did not eat dinner last night.

वह पिछले सप्ताह संग्रहालय नहीं गईं।

She did not visit the museum last week.

In negative sentences, you use "did not" (did + not) before the base form of the verb.

Interrogative Sentences:

Examples:

Daily Routine in past tense

I woke up at 6 a.m. I got fresh and I put rice grains for birds which roamed around our house in that early morning.  I looked that for about five minutes. Then I went to get ready for my college. I took my necessary things for my college. My classes started at 10.00 am. It went for about 5 hours listening to classes and enjoying with friends. The classes got over at 3.45 pm. During my travel, I read novels of my favorite authors. I came back home and spent time with my parents. After finishing my works, we had our dinner and went for sleep. This was my normal daily routine.
